8-year-old Igor Mikhailov, awarded a medal "For the Defense of Stalingrad". During the defense of Stalingrad, the boy was on the artillery battery of his father Konstantin Alekseevich Mikhailov. Together with the soldiers, Igor steadfastly endured dangers and hardships. He helped the soldiers as best he could: he brought them letters, newspapers, water, collected and handed over German leaflets to the command, more than once tracked down enemy scouts. After the end of the battles for Stalingrad, Igor flew to Moscow by plane and in the fall entered the 1st grade of school No. 95.
